About Emergency Dental Care
At Avon Dental Group, we understand the stress and concern that dental emergencies can cause. Our team of caring general dentists is here when you need us most. We offer 24-hour emergency dental care for our patients and strive to take care of any emergency needs the same day. Oral injuries and damage often result from accidents when playing sports, trip-and-falls, and direct trauma to the face or mouth. Whether you feel discomfort or not, it is still important to have your mouth evaluated after any injury to screen for any hidden damage. Our Avon, CT dental team places dental emergencies as a priority. If you or a loved one needs care from an emergency dentist, please contact our practice right away.

"Accommodating, professional and courteous."- B.P. / Facebook / Aug 25, 2020
"I have been coming to ADG for 12 years. They are so good that even now that I live two hours away, I still drive there for my dental care. Dr. Knowles is the best dentist I’ve ever had. He is officially recognized among his peers as one of the top dentists in Connecticut. My teeth need a lot of looking after and I only go to ADG for dentistry and cleaning visits. Dr. Knowles’ work is of the highest quality, and he treats everyone - patients and staff - with great courtesy and kindness. He is very gentle and patient and he makes sure my comfort is addressed, and he is attentive and responsive to my concerns. John is my hygienist. Like everyone at ADG he is friendly, courteous, gentle, and professional. He knows his job backwards and forwards and he listens to his patients and always does a wonderful job. They take every possible precaution to keep the office safer in a post-Covid world. The dentists have gowns, hats, masks and face shields and everyone in the office is masked. The waiting room chairs are distant from each other and the reception has plexiglas dividers. Everyone on staff is dedicated to the needs of the patient, and they are friendly and professional across the board. Every time I go there I immediately sense the incredible teamwork in the office. I’ve been recommending ADG to people for years: happy to do so on Google."- P.B. / Google / Jul 15, 2020
"Had a good visit. Technician was informed that I was on a blood thinner and was careful in the cleaning procedure. However, I did not like the brushed on fluoride because it did not dissolve and left a lingering bad taste in my mouth. I had to peak off the waxy residue and use mouthwash to try to get rid of the taste hours later than the treatment. My stomach felt upset too. Next time I will go back to the fluoride rinse."- B.C. / Facebook / Jul 10, 2020
Type of Dental Emergencies
You may need emergency treatment if a crown, bridge, denture, or other restoration breaks or falls out, you are in pain, or you have a broken or knocked-out tooth (which requires immediate care). In some circumstances, you may be unsure of how quickly you need to seek treatment (such as with a loose tooth or restoration, trauma that does not cause pain or bleeding, or a chipped tooth). Any time you have an injury to your mouth, including your gums, teeth, or jawbone, it is important to get in touch with our office right away. Our empathetic team can help you decide how quickly to come in, offer strategies to reduce any pain, and inform you of how to store your tooth or dental restoration until you arrive. Even minor injuries can cause larger problems if not treated right away, so it is better to err on the side of caution and contact our office immediately.
Though we treat all types of dental emergencies, some of the most common situations we see include:
- Knocked-out teeth
- Dislodged teeth or restorations
- Broken teeth or restorations
- Abscessed or infected teeth
- Oral lacerations
What To Expect during Care
Every dental emergency situation is different. To provide the highest level of care for your specific needs, we will carefully evaluate your mouth and work to get you out of discomfort as quickly as possible. Digital x-rays may be taken to screen for any unseen damage. Once we understand the extent of your condition, one of our dentists will speak with you about treatment options. Whenever possible, we strive to provide treatment during your emergency visit. However, you may require a follow-up appointment to further address your needs or complete your care. In some cases, our on-site dental lab may be utilized to fulfill lab-related emergencies within the same day, such as when a denture breaks or needs other repairs.
Following Your Emergency Visit
Follow-up instructions will be provided at the end of your emergency visit. Depending on your needs, a prescription for antibiotics or pain medication may be given, along with recommendations for palliative care at home. Our team can also offer suggestions on minimizing the risk of future emergency situations, including wearing a custom-made mouth guard during sports. Keeping your teeth and gums as healthy as possible through a daily home oral hygiene regimen can help to preserve your oral health moving forward. During your routine dental exam and cleaning visits at Avon Dental Group, our dentists will continue to monitor your healing progress.
Insurance and Emergency Care
Depending on your individual plan, dental insurance may cover some of your emergency dental treatment. A member of our front desk team will review your benefits and let you know of any anticipated personal costs. Please do not delay emergency dental care due to financial concerns, as putting off treatment could put your oral and general health at further risk. Avon Dental Group offers a variety of payment options, including no-interest financing plans through CareCredit. Talk to our team today to learn more.
