Oral injuries and damage often result from accidents when playing sports, trip-and-falls, and direct trauma to the face or mouth. Whether you feel discomfort or not, it is still important to have your mouth evaluated after any injury to screen for any hidden damage. Our Avon, CT dental team places dental emergencies as a priority. If you or a loved one needs care from an emergency dentist, please contact our practice right away.
"I am so impressed with this dental practice. Unfortunately, my son needed quite a bit of dental work and the office put together a plan that worked for us. They are respectful, compassionate and honest. The qualities that are not always easy to find. Please give them a try if you haven’t already"- M. / Google / Nov 18, 2022
"Love Dr. Fagan! I’d recommend her to anyone! I have pretty bad anxiety at the dentist, and she always makes me feel so much better. She is so sweet and gentle with all of the cavities I have gotten filled. The staff is also very nice and I wouldn’t go to the dentist anywhere else!"- V.S. / Google / Oct 24, 2022
"Kaylee was my hygienist and it was probably the best dental experience I’ve ever had! She was extremely friendly, made great conversation and overall made the office very inviting and comfortable. She was great at answering all of my questions, asking counter questions to get a better idea of what I currently do for my dental hygienist and how I can get better. I had a few questions about wisdom teeth and eventually Invisalign down the road, Kaylee addressed all of my concerns with detailed explanation and even suggested most ideal scenarios for my teeth. When it came to finally cleaning, she did so great I literally had to stop her mid cleaning and compliment her on just how great she was doing! She was taking her time cleaning every individual tooth, not missing a single spot. She would also tell me what she would be doing and why she would be doing it which I was really appreciative of and it made me feel more comfortable, by the time she was finished I felt like I could explain the entire cleaning process myself. The best thing about all of this, was even though Kaylee had an extremely meticulous process I couldn’t have been there much longer than 45 minutes which was perfect for me to get back to work! Overall, Avon Dental Group is an incredible environment in a beautiful town with an amazing staff. I’m super picky on my dentists and there are a lot of criteria I look at when choosing my services. Kaylee was phenomenal and I couldn’t be more excited to have found such a talented individual dedicated to her craft in a place that literally feels like my living room. I highly recommend Avon Dental, it’s convenient, warm and extremely attentive to all your needs and concerns."- J.G. / Google / Sep 24, 2022

Type of Dental Emergencies
You may need emergency treatment if a crown, bridge, denture, or other restoration breaks or falls out, you are in pain, or you have a broken or knocked-out tooth (which requires immediate care). In some circumstances, you may be unsure of how quickly you need to seek treatment (such as with a loose tooth or restoration, trauma that does not cause pain or bleeding, or a chipped tooth). Any time you have an injury to your mouth, including your gums, teeth, or jawbone, it is important to get in touch with our office right away. Our empathetic team can help you decide how quickly to come in, offer strategies to reduce any pain, and inform you of how to store your tooth or dental restoration until you arrive. Even minor injuries can cause larger problems if not treated right away, so it is better to err on the side of caution and contact our office immediately.
Though we treat all types of dental emergencies, some of the most common situations we see include:
- Knocked-out teeth
- Dislodged teeth or restorations
- Broken teeth or restorations
- Abscessed or infected teeth
- Oral lacerations
What To Expect during Care
Every dental emergency situation is different. To provide the highest level of care for your specific needs, we will carefully evaluate your mouth and work to get you out of discomfort as quickly as possible. Digital x-rays may be taken to screen for any unseen damage. Once we understand the extent of your condition, one of our dentists will speak with you about treatment options. Whenever possible, we strive to provide treatment during your emergency visit. However, you may require a follow-up appointment to further address your needs or complete your care. In some cases, our on-site dental lab may be utilized to fulfill lab-related emergencies within the same day, such as when a denture breaks or needs other repairs.
Following Your Emergency Visit
Follow-up instructions will be provided at the end of your emergency visit. Depending on your needs, a prescription for antibiotics or pain medication may be given, along with recommendations for palliative care at home. Our team can also offer suggestions on minimizing the risk of future emergency situations, including wearing a custom-made mouth guard during sports. Keeping your teeth and gums as healthy as possible through a daily home oral hygiene regimen can help to preserve your oral health moving forward. During your routine dental exam and cleaning visits at Avon Dental Group, our dentists will continue to monitor your healing progress.
Insurance and Emergency Care
Depending on your individual plan, dental insurance may cover some of your emergency dental treatment. A member of our front desk team will review your benefits and let you know of any anticipated personal costs. Please do not delay emergency dental care due to financial concerns, as putting off treatment could put your oral and general health at further risk. Avon Dental Group offers a variety of payment options, including no-interest financing plans through CareCredit. Talk to our team today to learn more.
