About Dental Implants
If you are looking for a long-lasting option to replace a missing tooth or teeth, we invite you to visit our Avon, CT dental practice to learn about your options for dental implants. A dental implant is a titanium screw that is inserting into the jaw to serve as an artificial tooth root. Once an implant fuses with the jawbone, it can then be used to support a natural-looking implant crown, bridge, or denture restoration. Implants offer a long-term option for replacing any number of missing teeth. At Avon Dental Group, our skilled team of general dentists has advanced training and expertise in implant dentistry. "Accommodating, professional and courteous."- B.P. / Facebook / Aug 25, 2020
"I have been coming to ADG for 12 years. They are so good that even now that I live two hours away, I still drive there for my dental care. Dr. Knowles is the best dentist I’ve ever had. He is officially recognized among his peers as one of the top dentists in Connecticut. My teeth need a lot of looking after and I only go to ADG for dentistry and cleaning visits. Dr. Knowles’ work is of the highest quality, and he treats everyone - patients and staff - with great courtesy and kindness. He is very gentle and patient and he makes sure my comfort is addressed, and he is attentive and responsive to my concerns. John is my hygienist. Like everyone at ADG he is friendly, courteous, gentle, and professional. He knows his job backwards and forwards and he listens to his patients and always does a wonderful job. They take every possible precaution to keep the office safer in a post-Covid world. The dentists have gowns, hats, masks and face shields and everyone in the office is masked. The waiting room chairs are distant from each other and the reception has plexiglas dividers. Everyone on staff is dedicated to the needs of the patient, and they are friendly and professional across the board. Every time I go there I immediately sense the incredible teamwork in the office. I’ve been recommending ADG to people for years: happy to do so on Google."- P.B. / Google / Jul 15, 2020
"Had a good visit. Technician was informed that I was on a blood thinner and was careful in the cleaning procedure. However, I did not like the brushed on fluoride because it did not dissolve and left a lingering bad taste in my mouth. I had to peak off the waxy residue and use mouthwash to try to get rid of the taste hours later than the treatment. My stomach felt upset too. Next time I will go back to the fluoride rinse."- B.C. / Facebook / Jul 10, 2020
Best Candidates for Implants
Dental implants are widely considered to be the "gold standard" when it comes to tooth replacements. Unlike traditional options, dental implants form a solid connection with the jawbone, much like that of a natural tooth root. Implants may be ideal if you need to replace a single damaged or missing tooth, several teeth, or even an entire arch. However, implants do require adequate bone support and a healthy oral environment in order to be successful and lasting. During your consultation, our dentists will evaluate the health of your jawbone and gums to decide if a dental implant is a good option for you. In some cases, a bone graft surgery may be needed before the implant is placed to ensure you have a strong enough foundation to support the replacement tooth. Dental implants may not be appropriate if you use tobacco products, are pregnant, or have certain medical conditions, such as diabetes.
The Treatment Process
To prepare your mouth for dental implants, you may first need to have teeth extracted or bone grafting procedures. One the day of your implant surgery, the treatment area will be numbed with local anesthesia. Sedation methods may be added to help you feel more comfortable during the procedure. An incision will be made in your gums so the post(s) can be precisely placed in your jawbone. The incision in the gums will be sutured closed and given time to heal. In some instances, we may attach a temporary restoration to your implants to allow for function and appearance as your mouth heals. When your implants have integrated with your jawbone, we will use our iTero Element 2 intraoral scanner to capture digital impressions of your implant and custom-craft your implant crown, bridge, or denture. Your new restoration(s) be attached to the implant posts and adjusted for a comfortable fit.
Following Implant Placement
There may be some temporary swelling or discomfort in your mouth and lower face following your implant surgery procedure, which can generally be relieved with cold compresses and pain medication. Our caring clinical team will let you know what is to be expected and what should be reported to our office. Implants can be cared for just like natural teeth, with daily brushing and flossing habits. During your routine dental cleaning and checkup visits at Avon Dental Care, our team will evaluate the health of your implant sites and use special instruments to remove any plaque or tartar accumulation.
Are Dental Implants Covered?
Depending on your dental insurance and personal coverage, a portion of your implant procedure and custom restoration might be a covered benefit. We want you to get the high-quality care needed for a healthy, functional smile and strive to bring affordable options to Avon, CT patients.
